"A very unique challenge" describes this installation perfectly. This project required 25,622 SF of flooring to be removed and new material installed while the library remained in operation. There were 34 loaded book shelves over 8' high and over 15' feet long each. The shelves were lifted with the books still loaded on them while removing the existing flooring and installing the new flooring. We had to maintain a quiet environment at all times so that the students were not disturbed. What a unique installation and a great success!
Bonitz worked directly with UNC Design & Construction. One design goal was to create immediate visual "pop." Another goal was to avoid the typical educational setting look that is too busy. The design goals were accomplished by using bold, solid accent border colors and a quarter-turned installation method.
