Greer Memorial Hospital

Neighborhood meetings impressed upon hospital administration and the design team the importance of an architectural style that would reflect the historical motifs of local Mission Style homes and prominent community structures like the railroad depot. The resulting design reflects the local context in style and details while simultaneously supporting the great demands of an acute care facility. Floor coverings maintain the thread of design continuity.

Though the patterning and colors remain consistent, multiple hard and soft flooring surfaces transition as needed, often unnoticeable (image 6). The warmth and comfort of the Arts and Crafts style makes the hospital experience less intimidating while also maintaining community character and grounding this centerpiece for the new wellness campus.
